Here at Skill Step Training we have several measures in place to ensure the safety of our staff, visitors a. We would like to give you an insight into what procedures we have in place to reassure anyone who is wanting to take part in a training course here with us. We have undertaken a COVID-19 risk assessment of our training delivery and have mitigated the risk of possible spread of COVID-19.

Upon entering our training centre you will be required to wear a face covering (unless exempt) and sanitise your hands using the hand sanitiser provided at the entrance. We have a process in place for stopping those with COVID-19 symptoms from entering our training centre and to manage instances of people who develop symptoms during the delivery of any training. We will ask you several questions regarding COVID-19 as you enter which we require you to answer honestly. Delegates will not be able to attend the course if they have any COVID-19 symptoms or should be self-isolating.

We then take you through into our socially distanced canteen area until the rest of your class arrives. The canteen will have refreshments available for you and we ask that you keep your cups with you to avoid accidental switching. At the moment we have reduced our class sizes to no more than 5 people per course. You will be required to sanitise your hands regularly throughout the day and wear a face covering whenever you are not sat at your desk, for example when walking around or participating in a practical activity. We require everyone to socially distance at all times.

Adjustments have been made to the delivery and assessment of our First Aid training including strict infection prevention and control measures. You will have your own manikin which will be used by only you throughout the day. The manikin will have been sterilised thoroughly and you will be asked to use alcohol sanitising wipes to scrub the manakin and defibrillator clean after use. You will be assessed putting yourself in the recovery position and will perform a primary survey on a manikin. Choking will be demonstrated on a manikin and you will be asked to apply a bandage on yourself.

You will be provided with individual resources you will need including a training pack, hard copy first aid book, notebook and pen. There is a temporary omission of the need to demonstrate rescue breaths in first aid training from the Resuscitation Council UK so you will not be expected to be assessed demonstrating rescue breaths until further notice.

Disposable gloves will also be used when using the manikins. When in the training room, the seats are a safe distance away from others with all of your training materials in front of you in your area. Each desk and seat is sanitised before and after every training session. The assessment papers are only touched by you and your assessor once hands have been sanitised. There are bottles of hand gel and antibacterial wipes on the desks available for you to use throughout your session.

The training equipment gets fully sanitised before and after every training session and isn’t touched by anyone else. Our building is sanitised daily, including handrails, light switches, furniture and other touch points.
