To provide the basic knowledge required under OLEC1 to access OLE construction sites safely and effectively for those who are directly or indirectly involved with OLE construction activities.

Access OLE Construction Sites 1 Overhead Lines Electrification Courses

The Access to Overhead Lines Electrification Constructions Sites 1 (OLEC-1) course gives a basic understanding of Overhead Line Electrification (OLE) Systems, enabling them to enter OLE construction sites. OLEC courses are mandatory for all wishing to work on the UK's rail networks Overhead Line equipment.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the limits of their personal authority.
  • Give a brief description of the main component parts of the OLE infrastructure.
  • Describe the main hazards and risks associated with OLE construction sites and activities.
  • Follow the safe access procedure.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Complete relevant records accurately and pass them on to the appropriate person.
  • Follow recording & reporting procedures.

Pre-Requisites (detailed)

  • Delegate must be at least 16 years old
  • Delegate must have Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence.
  • Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol). A drugs and alcohol test must have been carried out no more than 12 months prior to attending training event.
  • Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
  • Delegate must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card and meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021 - Competence and Training in Track Safety.
