Crane Controller - (CCE) Excavator

This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking Crane Controller - Excavator Crane as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake their duties in line with the associated capability.

Crane Controller - Excavator Rail Plant Courses

This course enables delegates to become competent operative/contollers of evcavator cranes used on the rail network infastructure. Training candidates to safely and responsibly use On Track Plant excavator crane.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe how the Excavator Crane is designed to function under normal operating conditions.
  • Describe what equipment calibration certificates and checks are required to comply with the relevant rules and regulations.
  • Describe what preparatory checks need to be completed on the machine including:
    • Pre-start checks/maintenance are complete/documented.
    • Machine/Crane Controller’s checklist is completed.
  • Describe the checks need to be completed on lifting accessories prior to use.
  • Briefly describe the main functions of all relevant controls available to the Driver/Operator. Avoid the Excavator Crane being placed in an unstable condition.
  • Demonstrate their ability to read a work/Lift plan and communicate its content effectively.
  • Correctly attach and use the lifting accessories to ensure a safe lift.
  • Control the movement of the Excavator Crane taking into account:
    • Condition of the track.
    • Cant.
    • Gradient.
    • Load height & Radius.
    • Machine Sectors.
  • Describe what information needs to be given to the Driver/Operator and how to confirm the Driver/Operator understands the extent of the movement/lift.

Pre-Requisites (detailed)

  • Delegate must be at least 18 years old
  • Delegate must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card and meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021 - Competence and Training in Track Safety.
  • Delegate must have Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence.
  • Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
  • Have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety).
  • Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol). A drugs and alcohol test must have been carried out no more than 12 months prior to attending training event.
  • Delegates must have recognised current Slinger competence.
