Nominated Person (NP) Initial

This course instructs candidates how to determine and fulfil their role and responsibilities when undertaking Level A (Nominated) person duties. This course is designed to ensure delegates are fully aware of the dangers that can arise in the course of Level A (Nominated) person’s duties.

Nominated Person Initial Overhead Lines Electrification Courses

This module is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking isolation's on AC OLE (Overhead Lines Electrification) in their daily work and helps to develop a person's knowledge, understanding and skills as defined in competence standards listed below and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.

The Level A (Nominated) Persons is required to hold all the units in Level B which are OLE 13,14,15 and 17 and in addition: OLE 16 - Managing the Isolation and Earthing of OLE.

Primary Objectives

  • Demonstrate their ability to interpret correctly the relevant parts of Rule Book GE/RT/8000 and NR/SP/ELP/29987 - Working on or about 25kV AC Electrified Lines when acting as Level A (Nominated) Person.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of what is required of them when working on or near to the OLE.
  • Demonstrate their ability to carry out the planning and management OLE AC Isolations.

Key aims

To instruct delegates how to determine and fulfil their role and responsibilities when undertaking Level A (Nominated) Person duties and this course is designed to ensure delegates are fully aware of the dangers that can arise in the course of Level A (Nominated) Person’s duties.

Successful completion of this course does not mean the delegate is allowed to carry out Level A (Nominated) Person duties, unless under direct supervision of a mentor during their probationary period, until they have been assessed by a licensed assessor as competent to do so in accordance with NR/L2/CTM/014. The successful completion of this course can be used as supporting evidence of competence to reach the level required in NR/L2/CTM/014.

Pre-requisites

  • Hold a current Authorised Person (AP) in full
  • The First Aid of Electrical Accidents course and hold current certification
  • The Personal Track Safety AC course and hold current certification.

Pre-Requisites (detailed)

  • First Aid of Electrical Accidents course and hold current certification
  • Currently hold a valid Level B (Authorised Person) certification in the relevant competence at Level 3 (competent).
  • Have at least 2 years experience of completing the duties of a competent Level B (Authorised Person). This experience shall be demonstrated through a minimum of 12 entries recorded in the persons logbook once the person has been assessed as fully competent or previously held Level A (Nominated Person) within 2 years, in the relevant competence at Level 3 (competent) or higher and has written permission to proceed with the training from the Network Technical Head of Contact Systems.
  • Delegate must have Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence.
