Personal Track Safety (PTS) Initial

Personal Track Safety (PTS) are the safety regulations and procedures that individuals must adhere to when working on or near the railway network in the UK rail. The key aim of Personal Track Safety is to ensure that individuals are competent to safely carry out their job responsibilities with minimal risk to themselves or others.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate their ability to interpret correctly the Rule Book GE/RT 8000 Series or Guide to Personal Track Safety or PTS Key Point Card NR9922 and relevant local instructions when required to go on or near the line.
• Demonstrate their understanding and ability to follow a Safe System of Work.

Pre-Requisites (detailed)

• Delegate must be at least 16 years old
• Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
• Make necessary arrangements for Knowledge Assessments to be read to support those who have difficulty with reading.
• Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol). A drugs and alcohol test must have been carried out no more than 12 months prior to attending training event.
• Have successfully completed the e-learning training and assessment prior to attendance.
• Have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety).
